5 Ways to Reset Your Wellness this Spring

A playful guide for rejuvenating body, mind, and soul with movement, positivity, and nature. Say hello to a refreshed, vibrant you this spring!

As the snow melts and the first green shoots of spring appear, we're reminded of nature's cycle of renewal and growth. Spring is not just a time for the earth to awaken; it's a perfect opportunity for us to rejuvenate ourselves—body, mind, and soul.

For many, this means decluttering, tidying up, and finding the dust bunnies missed during the dark winter months. But what about you? Your wellness, your body, your mind? What does stepping into spring with energy, hope, and self-renewal look like?

1. Cultivate Movement with Joy

In the spirit of rebirth and new beginnings, let's infuse our daily routine with movements that spark joy. Whether it's a leisurely walk in the park, a spontaneous dance session in your living room, or a gentle yoga flow, the aim is to reconnect with the sheer pleasure of moving.

Over the colder months, it's normal to stay in, move less, and change our habits. As the sun begins to linger longer, the urge to step outside and soak it up starts to creep in; it's time to embrace it.

Be open to shifting habits and patterns, looking for ways to bring joyful movement into your day and week. If this sounds like the perfect way to reset, here are three ways to explore the idea:

  • Prioritize Movement Breaks: This could mean taking a walk after breakfast or at the end of your day. Setting a reminder in your calendar to stand up and stretch can also be beneficial. The magic of scheduling movement is that we tend to take it more seriously. You can build the habit of movement by making it a part of your set schedule. The goal is consistency, which will help you develop it as a routine.
  • Embrace All Styles of Movement: If you love to dance, then dance! What would it feel like to put in your headphones and give yourself a couple of songs to shake things out when stressed? What if you could move through your emotions instead of holding them in? Be open to moving in ways your body needs right now. If you're struggling to show up to your yoga mat because it feels hard when what you crave is softness, why not accept this and try a restorative yoga class? Let go of judgment when it comes to movement this spring. Joy is not only found in energetic movement but in movement that meets your needs.
  • Challenge Yourself: For some, setting a goal is how they start finding joy in movement. No, I'm not suggesting you need to do 30 one-hour yoga classes or start training for a marathon (though if that sounds fun, go for it!). Commitment can flip a switch for many, influencing how they feel about an activity, how they talk about it to friends, and how they structure their day. For most of our members, having access to our online studio makes it easy to commit, but others may need a structured program. If that's you, make sure to check out our Spring Reset Programs.

2. Sow Seeds of Positivity

Spring is synonymous with growth and new life, making it the perfect time to cultivate a garden of positive thoughts. This involves being mindful of what you absorb. What are you reading, watching, listening to? Does social media make you feel good? It might be time to hit 'unfollow' on any account that brings up feelings of negativity or comparison. It's okay. You are in control. I personally like to ensure I follow people who inspire me, make me laugh, and overall bring joy. But this isn’t the only way to sow seeds of joy; here are three ways you can bring more joy into your life:

  • Positive Affirmations & Journaling: Begin each day with an affirmation of gratitude and openness. Time and again, research has shown us that gratitude is great for our brains, mood, and wellness. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Sit down and write a sentence or two about something you're grateful for. In our house, we like to share gratitude at the end of the day before dinner, making it a social event that sparks positive conversations.
  • Listen to Podcasts & Music That Uplift: Not everyone wants a dance party, but they may love some positive and thoughtful listens. Curate a playlist of music or podcasts that you can listen to on your morning walks or at home while relaxing. The type of media you consume matters, and sowing positivity can begin with what you choose to take in.

Spread the Positivity: Not a fan of journaling? A simple way to feel good is to spread positivity. Find ways to give a little positive love throughout your day. It can be as simple as making a point to uplift one person every day, such as pausing to thank your cashier, replying with kind words to an email, giving a genuine compliment, donating to your food bank, or helping clear your neighbor's sidewalk of snow. How you seed positivity doesn't matter; what matters is you are tuning into ways of being positive in your day and life. Trust me, making others feel good will also make you feel good.

4. Refresh Your Routines

Examine your daily routines and habits. Are they serving your highest good? This spring, challenge yourself to introduce small, sustainable changes that will have a lasting impact on your well-being. It's time to refine your sleep hygiene, explore meditation, or commit to regular, mindful hydration. And remember, sometimes doing less is what will help. This could mean watching a little less TV before bed or assessing which social and work commitments you can let go of. Everything has a cycle in our lives, and sometimes giving them a refresh or letting go can do wonders for how you feel.

5. Connect with Nature

There's no greater reminder of renewal than the natural world. Make a conscious effort to spend time outdoors every day, even if it's just a few minutes to breathe in the fresh, spring air. Let the sun kiss your skin, listen to the birdsong, and observe the budding plants. This connection to nature can ground you, reduce stress, and enhance your overall sense of well-being. Research shows that getting a little sunshine as soon as possible, within 30 minutes of waking up, does wonders for our minds and moods. I know this may not always be possible, but work towards it. Personally, I like to also end my day with a short walk. It has become a fun exercise to check when sunset is and ensure I sneak in even 10 minutes outside walking to get a little fresh air and sunshine.

Quick Reference Checklist:

  1. Schedule in Your Movement Breaks
    • Daily: Set an alert to stand up and stretch or relax before bed.
    • Weekly: Lock in 1 longer session, be it a 1-hour walk, gym visit with a friend, or a restorative class before bed.
  2. Positive Listening: Find a book, podcast, or playlist that uplifts you. This can transform walks or moments of inspiration as you sip your morning coffee. Commutes can become less stressful, and kitchen dance parties more likely.
  3. Start a Fresh Journal: It can mean picking up a beautiful book from a local shop or starting a fresh note on your phone. It doesn’t matter how you do it, but make it official so journaling becomes a habit you explore.
  4. Do Something Nice for Someone Else: This can mean pausing to hold the door or donating to the local food bank. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, but a sprinkle of positivity into the world.
  5. Pick One Wellness Habit to Refresh: Whether it's working on your sleep routine or ensuring you pack your lunch and drink water, choose one habit to focus on for the next 30 days. Incorporating mindfulness or yoga a little more often can also be beneficial.
  6. Get Outside Every Day: It can be as simple as a walk around the block or a friend hangout at the park. Get your sunshine!
