Rotations for Whole Body Health

In this lesson, you'll learn and feel in your own body why twists and rotation are important for whole-body health. 

When we add rotation to our movements and daily life, we increase circulation and improve joint health and strength among other benefits. 

We start the class with an applied anatomy overview of twists and why rotation tends to be overlooked in our activities and daily life, even on the yoga mat! 

From there, we'll move through our major joints and explore the wonderful world of rotation. You'll experience first-hand how rotation and twists feel in your neck, shoulders, hips, spine, wrists and ankles.

Homework

1. After doing the rotations class, think back to our day one class on the thoracic spine and breathing. How did the rotation work in the thoracic spine in this class, support what you learned in the thoracic spine class? 

2. Typically in yoga, when we think of twists, we think about a spinal twist. But in this class we explored all sorts of rotations in the body. How did that feel your body? 

3. How would you incorporate the different joint rotations into your classes? What poses could you add these rotations to?
